Job Description & Responsibilities:

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensures that Title I, Part A parent involvement regulations are met with meaningful and strategic actions to build parent capacity; Works with school administration to create a family-friendly environment; Serves as the liaison between the school and parents; Educates staff on how to communicate and work effectively with parents as equal partners in ensuring the academic achievement of their students; Provides opportunities to develop effective family-school partnerships to support student achievement and school improvement; Helps parents understand the school system so they can become better advocates for their children’s education; Expands opportunities for continued learning, voluntary classroom service, and school participation; Advises and trains parents on how to address issues with teachers and the school leadership staff; Provides referrals for community-based services for families dealing with conditions that impact the academic achievement of students; Develops community collaborations; Promotes sharing power with parents as decision-makers; Maintains a parent resource center; Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's degree required or a PSC-determined equivalent; Experience serving as an advocate for children and parents; Understanding of family engagement research and literature; Strong knowledge of computers and fundamental technology (Microsoft Office and Google Suites); Understands and respects the diversity of families’ economic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds and situations; General understanding of student data; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent communication and organizational skills; Strong public speaking and presentation skills; Self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as part of a team; Strong interpersonal skills; Ability to host parent meetings off school sites, in the local community, and/or neighborhoods; Ability to develop collaborative partners and build relationships with constituents in the community; Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
