Job Description & Responsibilities:

*Interns are required to live in or within commuting distance from this location, unless otherwise noted. Project Workdays and Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday – 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Keywords: – Talent development – Work force – Community Project Description: Developing and retaining talent is a top priority for businesses and communities around the nation. Talent development is foundational for a thriving community. It helps employers hire and retain qualified employees to meet their evolving business needs. It helps attract businesses looking to locate or expand in a community. It helps individuals identify career opportunities, pursue training and education and secure employment. It also requires intention, partnership, vision and ongoing investment. Our approach to talent development reflects these qualities while using an innovative strategy that incorporates individuals in the business community as partners in talent development. Our public, private and business partners have aligned to say these are the priorities: community connection and coordination, youth pipeline development and continued adult preparation. These three priorities make up the Albany-Dougherty County Works! Talent Development Strategy 2.0, and the business community is leading. Community connection and coordination is focused on career and resource awareness, marketing the community and opportunities therein while creating a digital one-stop shop for work force resources and pathways. Youth pipeline development is focused on highlighting career pathways for students, teachers and guidance counselors. It is also where we are focused on developing mentorship programming. Continued adult preparation is focused on reskilling and upskilling employees while also being intentional with opportunity populations in our community, such as military families and veterans. We began employing our approach by engaging business partners to bring relevant content and expertise from their field into the classroom setting through the FLEX ABY entrepreneurial competition, part of youth pipeline development. It is because of the success of those partnerships that we wanted to expand the utility of the community partner approach to other areas within our talent development strategy. We now use this approach across several of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s programs. Propel+ is a talent development program where we extended the adult women at work program, Propel, and brought it to the high school to foster connection, empowerment and mentorship. Propel+ aims to build a web that through connection nurtures, provides and empowers Albany’s female youth to design their paths. FLEX ABY and Propel+ are initiatives situated within the youth pipeline development priority. We are also utilizing the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s Talent Pipeline Management (TPM) Academy framework for talent development. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in this public innovation as we utilize the supply chain model as a framework to help build talent pipelines in our community. We believe these programs embody inclusive innovation by improving access and opportunities for all students in Dougherty County.
