Job Description & Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities: Assist in preparation of data input for developing financial statements and management information reports, including monthly accounting journal entries, overhead application schedules, bank reconciliations, general cost ledger account analyses and monthly reports to the corporate office and the customer. Audit the output of the accounts payable and cashier functions. Maintain cash disbursements journal, general ledger, and cost ledger by recording accounting transactions, preparing reconciliations and financial tabulations as assigned. Account and deposit in bank cash receipts (e.g., meal ticket revenues, employee advance returns, Student Government Association receipts, etc.) Assist in reconciliation, preparation, and disbursement of student payroll and transportation allowance (bus passes, tokens, and gas allowance). Assist students and answer questions regarding student pay. Assure accuracy of payroll summary sheets prepared by accounting clerk before sending to corporate office. Responsible for petty cash fund and reconciliation when balance falls below set dollar amount (usually biweekly). Monitor the financial status of Students’ Welfare Fund. Coordinate with other center staff concerning accounting matters. Cultivate and maintain a climate on center that is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and addressing inappropriate behaviors. Clearly communicate and consistently model appropriate employability skills including personal responsibility and computer fluency. Maintain accountability of property, adhere to safety practices, and perform safety inspections in area of responsibility. Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field Two (2) years related experience. Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements if basic college level accounting courses have been successfully completed. Able to complete all mandated training requirements per government and management directives. Additional Requirements: Considerable knowledge of acceptable accounting procedures, computer procedures, and procedures governing maintenance of records is necessary. Ability to operate a 10-key calculator with speed and accuracy is required. Proficient in the use of a personal computer, fax machine, copier/scanner. Ability to adapt to the latest accounting/spreadsheet software to facilitate the accuracy in data input. Thorough knowledge of office procedures. Effective organizational skills. Ability to effectively relate to trainee population. Ability to deal effectively with the public and government officials. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
