Chief LaShawnda Ethridge & Chief Anita Allen to speak during local TEAAMS Session at Albany Technical College
Albany, Georgia – Albany Technical College is announcing the upcoming TEAAMS Monthly Empowerment Session on March 21, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the Logistics Education Center. LaShawnda Ethridge, Chief of Police Albany Technical College, and Anita Allen, Chief of Police Albany State University, will speak at the event. This session is part of the college's Teaching, Empowering African American Males to Succeed (TEAAMS) initiative. It is designed to provide African American males with fundamental skills to help them succeed and persist through internal and external challenges.
Each month, the TEAAMS project hosts a Monthly Empowerment Session; ATC Faculty and Community Leaders are invited to speak to the students. "Chief Ethridge and Chief Allen will join us as we celebrate Women's History Month.," remarked Quanta Bell, the TEAAMS Project Director.
About the Speakers
Chief LaShawnda Ethridge, Chief of Police Albany Technical College
Chief Ethridge began her law enforcement career at the Albany Police Department in 2004. In 2011, she decided to change from the municipality setting to the campus police setting. Chief Ethridge has experience in supervision, emergency management, clerical, investigations, communications, and professional standards, to name a few. Chief Ethridge became a member of the Titan Family in June 2022, becoming the 1st Female Chief of Police at Albany Technical College. Campus policing allows offi¬cers to serve in a different capacity that is not often expected. “We're allowed to be real people and connect on a more personal level to truly impact lives positively. I take this responsibility seriously. It's imperative that I leave a positive feeling that creates change. It is important to remember how special we truly are and continue to spread our light. I had a neighbor who ended every conversation with, ‘Eat Right, Sleep Right, Do Right, Treat everybody Right, and keep whoever is at the head of your life at the Head.’ These are words that I now live by,” stated Chief Ethridge.
Chief Anita Allen, Chief of Police Albany State University
Chief Anita Allen opens the line of communication with community policing between students and campus safety through her engagement and activities. Allen's diverse law enforcement background has provided her with experience and operational knowledge of the overall law enforcement field. She has over 22 years of law enforcement experience in higher education and the municipality sector. Allen has experience in management, criminal investigations, professional development, strategic implementation, jail management and operations, training, policy development, and public relations collaboration. In January 2022, Chief Allen became the 1st Official female Chief of Police at Albany State University. Allen is a highly active member of the communities she serves continually. Allen is a woman of faith and her accomplishments demonstrate the love and compassion she has for others. By leading by example, she strives daily to cultivate strong servant leaders to lead within our communities with integrity, dignity, and professionalism. Chief Allen is an agent of change and thrives in her mission to believe in, "Where there is life, there is hope and where there is hope, there is always an opportunity to change the impossible to the possible."
