Albany, Georgia - Albany Technical College will have a Suicide Awareness presentation Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at 9 a.m. in the Logistics Education Center (LEC) auditorium on the Albany Tech campus. Jennifer Dunn, Behavioral Health Regional Services Administrator for the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Development Disabilities, Thomasville, Georgia, will speak about suicide.

The holidays can be especially tough for someone going through personal issues. This is also the time of the year when college students experience higher stress with the pressure of final exams. Coping with life and dealing with the ups and downs can be achieved and there are professionals in the community willing to help individuals.

Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in Georgia, according to 2017 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The suicide burden in Georgia stretches from rural to urban areas and touches every racial and age group. Georgia is a leader in developing community and public policy solutions to suicide. In early 2019, suicide prevention stakeholders across the state, convened to learn and discuss the complexity of suicide, suicide prevention in Georgia, and priority goals and strategies to address the burden of suicide. *Source: Suicide Prevention | Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. https://dbhdd.georgia.gov/bh-prevention/suicide-prevention
