Albany, Georgia – Albany Technical College will hold a National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) Induction Ceremony and Fall 2018 Honor Graduates Program on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at 6 p.m. in the Logistics Education Center (LEC) Student Center.
Thirteen Albany Tech students will be inducted into NTHS this fall. In order to qualify for induction, students must meet the following requirements: be enrolled at Albany Tech; have completed two consecutive semesters of course work, a minimum of 18 credit hours; hold at least a 3.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) overall; exemplify the personal qualities of an honor student (safety conscious, works well with others, dependable, trustworthy, responsible, honest, takes pride in work, exhibits good citizenship, and makes a neat and clean appearance); and maintain the required grade average to remain a member of the organization.
For Albany Tech’s Fall Graduation, 106 candidates will receive awards in categories such as American Criminal Justice Club, Ambassadors, Engineering Club (E-Club), Honors with Distinction, National Technical Honors Society (NTHS), Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), Presidential Scholar, SkillsUSA, Student Fellowship for Christians (SFC), Student Government Association (SGA), and General Education Development (GED).
Keynote speaker for the program will be Dr. Anthony O. Parker. Dr. Parker has been president of Albany Technical College since July 1995. He is the former vice president of student services at Aiken Technical College in Aiken, S.C., and Southeastern Tech in Vidalia, GA. In July of 2005, Parker also assumed the duties of interim assistant commissioner of Adult Literacy for the Technical College System of Georgia in Atlanta serving from July 1, 2005 through April 1, 2006.
Since his arrival, Albany Tech has completed a capital campaign, doubled enrollment, and taken responsibility for adult literacy. New facilities were constructed or renovated on the Dougherty County campus, a campus was constructed in Early County, and a learning center was built in Randolph County.
Parker holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from South Carolina State University. He received a specialist in education degree in Educational Administration from Augusta College and a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. He is also a graduate of the Institute of Educational Management at the Harvard University Graduate School. He graduated from the Executive Leadership Institute at the League for Innovation in the Community College and also served as a faculty member on four occasions.
Albany Tech NTHS president Johnnie Hunter will provide opening remarks and Albany Tech alumni and member of the NTHS, Julianna Matthews, will provide the pledge/charge to the new inductees. Johnnie Hunter and three Albany Tech NTHS members will officiate the Candlelight Ceremony, a tradition of NTHS induction.
