Albany, Georgia – The Center for Business Solutions at Albany Technical College and the Albany Tech Foundation is hosting the 2020 Master Lecture Series with special guest speaker Dr. John Culbreath, Wednesday, March 11, beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the Kirkland Conference Center on the Albany Tech campus. Community guests, students, and faculty will be able to enjoy lunch and listen to Dr. Culbreath speak on “Leadership in Defining Moments.”

Culbreath’s career in education began in the classroom as a teacher and grew to include experiences as assistant principal, principal of three different schools, and assistant superintendent. Dr. Culbreath was named superintendent of the Dougherty County School System in 1995, a job he held until 2001. His legacy as superintendent includes rebuilding three schools after the flood, enhancing technology in the schools, and raising the academic bar. Dr. Culbreath broke racial barriers in Dougherty County, becoming the county’s first African American superintendent. When he retired in 2001, he passed the baton to another trailblazer, as he was succeeded by the county’s first female superintendent, Dr. Sally Whatley.

Culbreath is a co-founder of Strive2Thrive, an initiative designed to eliminate poverty in Dougherty County. Culbreath also retired as the interim dean of the ASU College of Education.
