Albany Technical College Healthcare Technology to Hold Summer Capping & Pinning Thursday

ALBANY, GA – Albany Technical College’s Healthcare Technology division will hold the summer 2019 Capping and Pinning ceremony on Thursday, July 25, beginning at 6 p.m., in the Kirkland Conference Center on the campus of Albany Technical College.

Over seventy students will be capped and pinned in the following programs: Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, and Practical Nursing.

Keynote speaker will be Marla Fowler, English and General Core Program Chair Albany Technical College. Marla grew up in the southwest Georgia town Camilla. Her parents are the late Elder Dave Jackson and Annie Jackson. In 1991, she graduated from Mitchell-Baker High School.  After high school, she headed to Georgia Southern University, where she majored in English and Education. During her senior year at Georgia Southern, Fowler transferred to Albany State University, where she earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English and an MPA with a concentration in Human Resources.  She also earned a Ph.D. in Educational Technology from Walden University.  She is the author of two novels:  Climbing the Ladder of Love and Going Down the Ladder of Love.  She is a member of the Georgia and the National Council of Teachers of English, The National Association of Public Administrators, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  She has won several awards such as Albany State’s 50 under 50, and Albany Herald’s 40 under 40 and numerous writing awards. 

Fowler began her career as an English Instructor at Albany (GA) Technical College where she currently teaches and has served as the Chair of the English and General Core Department.  Also, she has taught at Darton State College and Albany State University.    Fowler has served as a copy editor and reporter and she edits several novels for upcoming authors. 

Fowler is married to the Rev. Roderick Fowler and they reside in Camilla, Georgia and they have five children and two grandchildren.  They attend Zion Grove in Worth County where Fowler sings in the choir and works with the Mission Department and St. Peter in Leary, Ga where her husband is pastor.
