Albany, Georgia – Albany Technical College will have a virtual live Facebook presentation featuring Design and Media Production Technology Wednesday, April 14, at 10 a. m. in the Center of Excellence in Information Technology and Electronics (CEIT) building, room 128. A small group of faculty and staff will be on hand during the event which will highlight what is new in the program as well as expected outcomes for graduates. The presentation will include the areas of specialization to choose from in Design and Media Production Technology.
The college just recently added the Video and Film Editor Technical Certificate of Credit to the program. Video and Film Editor is a 19-hour certificate designed to prepare students for employment in video and film production. Students will learn the creative and technical aspects of video production and editing through classroom and hands-on projects. The technical courses apply to the diploma and degree in the Design and Media Production Technology program. Film and video editors manipulate moving images that entertain or inform an audience. They collaborate with a director to determine the overall vision of the production. They typically work in studios or office settings.

We are excited to increase the program offerings by adding the Video and Film Editor Technical Certificate of Credit. This really is an opportunity for creative individuals to earn a degree in something that they will genuinely love once they graduate and are placed in the field,” says Joe Bellacomo, Design and Media Production Technology Program Chair/Instructor.
Students interested in a career with a creative element enhanced by the latest technology for design and photography should consider Design & Media Production Technology (DMPT). This program offers students a solid foundation in developing their visual communication and creative design skills using industry standard software and digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras.
Graphic design and prepress include learning the principles and elements of designing printed pages for products such as booklets and brochures, posters, and greeting cards, using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop software on Mac computers. Prepress focuses on the process involved in preparing and finishing design projects that are printed in a print center or print shop.
DMPT also has a photography specialization that begins with learning the basics of photography in the Photography I and II courses, focusing on composition, exposure, and lighting techniques. The remaining classes include portraiture, documentary photography, and production/studio photography, taking students deeper into those disciplines.
The Design and Media Production Technology curriculum is accredited by PrintED through the Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF). Students can earn a Design and Media Production Technology Associate of Applied Science degree, or a diploma with Technical Certificates of Credit (TCC) in Graphic Design/Prepress and Photography. At the completion of this program, students will have a portfolio of work showcasing their skills, ability, and style.
Many graphic designers are employed in specialized design and professional services such as publishing, advertising, public relations, print centers, and related services. Another option for designers and photographers is to be self-employed, establishing a base of clients for whom they complete projects.
The employment of film and video editors is projected to grow 18 percent from 2019 to 2029, faster than the average for all occupations. Production companies and video freelancers work with new content delivery methods, such as mobile devices or through online TV, internet-only platforms and streaming services which may lead to more work for editors and camera operators.
