Stopping Threats Faster Through the Cybersecurity Program: A Refreshed and Vital Program at Albany Technical College

ALBANY, GA – In this day and age, there is a need for Cybersecurity for nearly every business regardless of size. Computer Information Systems, Networking plus the importance of Cybersecurity will be the topic at Albany Tech on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, 10 a.m., Center for Excellence in Information Technology and Electronics (CEIT), Room 218.

The Computer Information Systems’ Cybersecurity program is designed to provide students with an understanding of the concepts, principles, and techniques required in the acquisition, recording, organization, retrieval, display, and dissemination of information. Program graduates are qualified for employment as Information Security Specialists.

A strong background in networking is also encouraged. The goal is to provide students with an understanding of the steps required for computer information processing. Graduates are expected to be competent in the general areas of humanities or fine arts, social or behavioral sciences, natural sciences, and mathematics. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be proficient in the technical areas of computer terminology and concepts, program design and development, and computer networking.

“Today’s graduates require a combination of skills including Networking and Computer Information Systems’ Cybersecurity and a good comprehension of Programming. At Albany Technical College we strive to give our graduates a thorough background of the computer industry in addition to their area of specialty” stated Cassandra Henderson, Albany Tech Chair/Instructor, CIS - Computer Programming, Networking & Computer Programming.

An Associate of Applied Science in Cybersecurity offered online and on campus, prepares graduates to begin and progress into technology and network security careers in government, military, manufacturing, service, education and other private, public and nonprofit sectors. The course work will teach students to create and execute a digital security strategy that supports and defends data resources managed by an employer.

Jobs of the future in the industry include: Network or Systems Administration, Digital Forensics Engineering, Digital Security Project Management, Information Technology & Assurance, Computer Programmer, Cyber Risk & Strategy Analysis, Cyber Intelligence, Network Engineer, Network Analyst, Information Systems Administrator, Network Technician, Computer Networking Instructor, Computer Programmer, Computer Engineer, Database Administrator, Web Master, Computer-Operations Researcher, Computer Repair Specialist and Systems Analyst.
