Cooper Tire employees turn to Albany Tech for training Enrollment numbers continue to climb as lay-offs begin

March 31, 2009 – Albany Technical College should set an enrollment record this Spring Quarter, due in part to a growing number of Cooper Tire employees attending the college. Nearly 100 Cooper Tire employees have applied at Albany Tech as they face the closure of the Albany tire plant. Thirty-six employees are enrolled for Spring Quarter which began March 26th.

“We welcome these resilient students,” said Dr. Parker. “They understand that updating their current skills will enable them to find a new job more quickly. Some have even decided to train for a completely new career in recession-proof professions such as health care, computer information systems and electronics.”

In addition to the Georgia HOPE Grant/Scholarship and federal financial aid, Cooper Tire employees may be eligible for financial assistance through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).
