Chief Cedric Scott to speak during local TEAAMS Session at Albany Technical College

Albany, Georgia — Albany Technical College is proud to announce the upcoming TEAAMS Monthly Empowerment Session on January 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Logistics Education Center. The featured speaker for this session will be Chief Cedric Scott. As part of the college’s Teaching, Empowering, African American Males to Succeed (TEAAMS) initiative, the program aims to equip African American males with essential skills to help them persist and succeed despite internal and external challenges.

“The TEAAMS Program continues to make a positive impact on our campus as a result of the unwavering community support,” said Quanta Bell, TEAAMS Project Director. “Each month, TEAAMS hosts a Monthly Empowerment Session, where ATC faculty and community leaders are invited to speak to students.”

Chief Cedric Scott became Fire Chief of the Albany, Georgia Fire Department on June 11th, 2018, after serving as the Fire Chief for the City of Suffolk, Virginia, a position he held for five years before joining Albany. He began his firefighting career in Georgia with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department in 1987 and moved up through the ranks to serve as the department’s Fire Training Chief. He has been honored to serve as Fire Chief of three Georgia Fire Departments, including Waycross, College Park, and Rockdale County, respectively. Chief Scott went to Suffolk after serving as the Assistant Fire Chief of Logistics in the City of Savannah, Georgia. Scott has an extensive educational background, with an AAS degree in Health: Paramedic Technology from Gordon College and an AAS degree in Fire Service Administration from Macon State College. He also has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Mercer University and a Master of Business Administration from Wesleyan College. Chief Scott is a Certified Public Manager and has been approved to the grade of Member in the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE) United States of America Branch and has received the Chief Fire Officer Designation (CFOD).

Additionally, he is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program. Chief Scott has achieved certifications as a Certified Emergency Manager from both the International Association of Emergency Managers and the State of Georgia, and he is a member of the Emergency Management Committee of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. He is also a member of the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s Insurance Services Office (ISO) Advisory Board. Chief Scott was named Fireman of the Year in 1995 and was awarded the Bibb County 4-H Distinguished Service Citation (2000-2001). He was honored as a Star of Life by the American Ambulance Association in 2001. Chief Scott and his wife Lydia reside in Albany.
