Albany Technical College Enhances Automotive Training and adds a New Hybrid and EV Lab

Albany, Georgia - Albany Technical College is advancing workforce education with a $2 million renovation and expansion of its Automotive Technology facilities. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Thursday, March 20th, at 10:00 a.m. in Freedom Hall, directly across from Parking Lot 4.

The project adds 10,000 square feet to the facility, including a state-of-the-art Hybrid and Electric Vehicle (EV) laboratory equipped with advanced trainers and safety tools. This expansion marks the college’s ongoing efforts to address the evolving needs of the automotive industry, particularly in the electric vehicle sector.

Dr. Emmett Griswold, President of Albany Technical College, stated: “As the automotive industry evolves, we are committed to providing students with hands-on experience in emerging technologies. This investment will empower students with skills to meet industry needs and drive our region’s economic growth.”

The expansion includes two new Technical Certificates of Credit (TCC):

  • EVP1 Electric Vehicle Professional TCC
  • HVR1 Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Repair Technician TCC

James Miller, Automotive Technology Chair and Instructor, added: “The new lab is a significant addition for our students, providing practical experience in hybrid and electric vehicle repair. It’s an exciting step forward in preparing them for in-demand careers.”
