ATC Holds Fourth Annual Titans Athletic Banquet Friday

April 28, 2011 - Albany Technical College will hold an Athletics Banquet for the Titans basketball players and cheerleaders from season 2010-2011 on Friday, April 29, 2011, at 6pm, in the Manufacturing Technology Center on campus.


Men and Lady Titans will be recognized for their accomplishments during the ceremony. Award presentations will be given to the cheerleaders and players by the coaches, as well as a special presentation for “Friend of the Titans.” Keynote speaker for the evening’s ceremony will be Charlene Johnson, Athletics Director for South Carolina State University.


Charlene Johnson has built an outstanding legacy at South Carolina State and beyond the Orangeburg campus. Three years ago, she became the first female to serve as Chairperson of the Directors of Athletics in the Mid- Eastern Athletic Conference. The 2010-2011 athletic season marks Johnson’s twenty-eighth year as a member of the SC State Department of Athletics, making her one of just three athletics staff members with 25-plus years of service to the University’s athletics department.


Prior to being named Director of Athletics, Johnson served seven years as the senior woman administrator and associate athletics director for the university. During her tenure as Director of Athletics, three difference SC State teams have brought home conference championships, with three earning NCAA tournament appearances. The Bulldog football team won the 2008 and 2009 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference titles and made back-toback trips to the prestigious FCS playoffs, and was league Co-Champion in 2004.


Johnson was inducted into the SC State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998 as an administrator and received special recognition in 2000 as a member of the 1979 AIAW National Championship team. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degree from SC State.
