ATC's National Technical Honor Society Inducts Students

 April 10, 2013- ALBANY, GA- Albany Technical College's chapter of the National Technical Honors Society (NTHS) will induct several students for spring semester during a ceremony on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at 6pm, in the Kirkland Conference Center.


NTHS is the acknowledged leader in the recognition of outstanding student achievement and technical education. The organization also offers scholarships every year to its members.


Keynote speaker for the evening ceremony will be Aamir Greene, who is the 2013 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) winner for Albany Tech and current Student Government Association (SGA) president. A current Telecommunications Engineering Technology degree student at Albany Tech, Greene is also part of the college's Achieving the Dream Core Team, which is helping to identify student success barriers.


Enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1990, Greene has served in the Desert Storm War and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Many awards have been earned throughout Greene's military career. He was also part of a humanitarian effort in 1992 of providing aid to the victims of Hurricane Andrew in south Florida. His career goal is to obtain his associate's degree in Telecommunications Engineering Technology and begin an entrepreneurship in telecommunications.


Students eligible for induction into the NTHS must be enrolled at Albany Tech; must have completed two consecutive quarters of coursework, a minimum of 24 credit hours; must have at least a 3.5 GPA overall and must have made no lower than a B on any course exam. Eligible students must also exemplify the personal qualities of an honor student: safety conscious; working well with others; dependable; trustworthy; responsible; honest; takes pride in work; exhibits good citizenship; and makes a neat and clean appearance. In addition, the student must be recommended by his/her advisor and must maintain the required grade average to remain a member of NTHS.
