Albany Technical College Foundation, Inc. Receives $50,000 AT&T Grant

November 18, 2009 — The Albany Technical Foundation, Inc. accepted a $50,000 grant from AT&T* Georgia today to provide technical education and training support for evolving workforce development needs of Southwest Georgia. The Foundation was established to support the programs of Albany Technical College.

Albany Tech utilizes traditional, online and distance learning methods to provide quality competency-based associate degrees, diploma and technical certificates of credit programs that prepare students for employment in business, technical sciences, allied health, personal services and industrial careers. The ATC Foundation supports projects that create funding for scholarships and endowments to assist in the financing of capital improvements and promote programs for the development of the College. The availability of online education will help in meeting this mission by providing job training to the segment of the population who most need access to educational opportunities that will lead to higher paying jobs.

Specifically, the grant will be used to establish a Cyber Cafe’ arrangement that will provide an environment for Albany Tech students to access the Web and online instructional materials and tools at all times outside of the traditional computer laboratory setting.

For us, corporate citizenship begins by supporting the communities where we live and work”, said Courtney Brinson, Regional Manager, External Affairs-Georgia. “Companies, like AT&T, are able to invest in innovative programs like the one being launched today because of the public policy positions our legislature takes on business issues. 

I would like to commend our local legislators for helping to create an environment that recognizes the importance of investing in our communities and in education.”  They are:  State Senator Freddie Powell Sims, State Representative Winfred Dukes, State Representative Carol Fullerton and State Representative Ed Rynders.
