Albany Technical College Celebrates SkillsUSA Week Feb. 4-8

ALBANY, GA – Students and faculty at Albany Technical College (ATC) will join others across the nation to celebrate SkillsUSA Week, which is Feb. 3-9, 2019. SkillsUSA is celebrated the second week of February each year. This awareness campaign recognizes the efforts involved, underscoring the purpose and mission which is to help prepare workers in public career and technical programs. On Tuesday, February 5, 8:30 am, ATC President Dr. Anthony Parker will sign a proclamation declaring the week at Albany Tech as SkillsUSA Week. The signing will take place in the Albany Technical College’s Logistics Education Center, ExecutiveBoard Room (second floor). SkillsUSA participating students will be on hand for the signing.

In March 2019, twenty-eight competitors from Albany Technical College will compete at SkillsUSA State Competition in Atlanta, Georgia. Winning students will continue on to compete in a national competition later in the year.

The majority of the technical colleges have SkillsUSA chapters. Membership in SkillsUSA affords students the opportunity to demonstrate occupational and leadership skills by competing in state and national competitions.SkillsUSA State competitions are held annually in the spring and the national competitions are held in June. At the annual-level SkillsUSA Championships, over 5,200 students compete in 91 occupational and leadership areas. At the state level, approximately 500 students compete in about 64 occupational and leadership contests.

SkillsUSA is a United States career and technical student organization serving more than 300,000 middle school, high school, and college students and professional members enrolled in training programs in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. The organization is dedicated to preparing America’s high-performance workers in public career and technical programs.

SkillsUSA provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes, and communications skills.   • Monday, Feb. 4, is Appreciation Day Advisors, Faculty, Staff, and Administrators are invited to join SkillsUSA members for coffee, tea, and doughnuts in LEC 102. Coffee and Doughnuts 9-11 am, LEC 102
  • Tuesday, Feb. 5, is Advocacy Day Signing of Proclamation by President Anthony Parker declaring February 4-8 SkillsUSA Week at Albany Technical College.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 6, is Member Outreach Day SkillsUSA Members promote SkillsUSA to students at the 4-C Academy.
  • Thursday, Feb. 7, is SkillsUSA Serves Day Kick-off Campaign to collect supplies for classroom teachers at Albany Middle School. Donate items in LEC 102
  • Friday, Feb. 8, is SkillsUSA Day Promote SkillsUSA by Wearing Red or your favorite SkillsUSA shirt. Take a fun photo in the Student Center
