Albany Technical College Appoints New Executive Vice President

May 7, 2012 - Effective June 1, 2012, Shirley Armstrong will assume the position of Executive Vice President at Albany Technical College. She is currently the Vice President of Academic Affairs and will be taking on this position in addition to her regular duties.

Armstrong has previously served as Dean of Academic Affairs for the Technology, Business and PublicServices division at Albany Tech. Prior to this position, she was the Program Director for the Radiologic Technology program for Albany Tech. She served from 1983 to 1991 as the Clinical Coordinator for the Radiography Program at Albany Tech. Before joining Albany Tech, she worked as a supervisor in the Computed Tomography Imaging division of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, as well as a Staff Technologist in the Radiology Department.

A member of the American Technical Education Association, the Georgia Society of Radiologic Technologists, and the Dougherty County Development Authority, Armstrong received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in Trade and Industrial Education from Valdosta State University, and will complete the her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Florida A&M University in the fall.

Armstrong’s professional affiliations include: Dougherty County Rotary Club, United Way Education Impact Solution Team, Girl Scouts Women of Distinction Committee, Leadership Albany, as well as other professional societies, including Georgia Society of Radiologic Technologies and has been a registered technologist for more than 35 years.
