March 11, 2010 - Albany Tech held a “Name the Bus” contest among our students during the month of February asking for name suggestions for our newly renovated Mobile Recruitment Lab. Today, Albany Tech unveiled the student winner and new name of our recruitment vehicle at an announcement ceremony held in our Carlton Construction Academy.
Edrian Mallory, a drafting student at Albany Tech, chose the name “Career Cruiser.” Mallory told the story about how she came up with the name and said she thought about it and realized that it was a mobile outlet for a new career. “I just thought the name would be catchy. The bus is used for recruiting, and you are cruising around town to do it,” said Mallory.
Lisandra De Jesus, Dean of Admissions at Albany Tech, led the committee to choose the winning name. “We wanted a name that focused on the potential student and their career path and we think Career Cruiser is the perfect fit,” said De Jesus.
The Career Cruiser, which spans more than 30 feet in length, is designed for doorstep delivery of Albany Tech academic program information. Ten laptop computer workstations allow the recruitment team to provide admissions and testing services on-site to high schools and businesses in the Albany Tech service delivery area. Visitors can also take in a virtual campus tour on lab’s high-tech display screen.
Albany Tech has already held rolling ribbon cuttings for the Career Cruiser in Dougherty County, including both the main campus and the Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB), and Lee County. Additional ribbon cuttings are in the planning stages for our additional service delivery areas, including Randolph, Terrell, Clay, Calhoun and Baker.
