Albany Tech hopes to surprise in 2014-2015

October 21, 2014- Albany, GA from WFXL- It's a new year and a brand new team for Albany Tech men's basketball.

After winning just three GCAA games in 2013-2014, Sylvester Patterson and the Titans are looking to bounce back into form this season. They return just three sophomores, and they add six new freshmen and three transfers into the mix this year.

Patterson looked to improve Albany Tech's athleticism and shooting, and he believes he did just that with the influx of talent. To compete in a very difficult conference, they'll have to be better on both ends of the floor.

"It's the best I've seen the conference in awhile," Patterson said. "There's just so much size and athleticism."

The offense isn't much of a concern for the Titans right now. Instead, they're playing catch-up on the defensive end.

"It's just a process, going through the process of having the kids learn the way that you like for things to be done," Patterson said.

Nobody expects Albany Tech to make much noise in the GCAA. But if the newcomers make strides, it could be a surprising season.

"I think we're going to be able to compete with everybody, but we're really going to have to learn to execute," Patterson said. "We're going to really have to be locked in."

Albany Tech opens the regular season on the road on October 31st at Faulkner State.
