Albany Tech experiences a 24-percent summer enrollment growth and hits record enrollment

July 7, 2009 – Nearly 3,000 students began summer quarter at Albany Technical College today -- the largest summer quarter enrollment in the college’s 48-year history.  ATC’s summer quarter student population grew nearly 25-percent over summer 2008, with 2,932 students enrolled as of this morning.

“Typically, summer quarter is our lowest enrollment period,” said ATC President Dr. Anthony Parker. “But we believe the lagging economy is motivating many students to increase their education and skill level in hopes of landing a better career.”

Online enrollment also increased with more than 70-percent of Albany Tech students taking at least one online course.

“More and more students are choosing to take online courses to save money on gas and for the convenience of taking courses while still working and raising families,” said Dr. Parker.

With Albany Tech now offering open enrollment and two additional condensed, five-week terms, the student count will continue to climb this quarter.
