ALBANY, GEORGIA – Culinary Arts student, Glen Graves, took home the winning title in Albany Technical College’s fourth annual “Albany’s Next Titan Chef” competition on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in the Logistics Education Center Auditorium. Graves is set to graduate from the Culinary Arts degree program in the Summer of 2018.

“Albany’s Next Titan Chef” is designed to engage Culinary Arts students in a competition similar to the television series “Chopped” to learn to prepare various parts of a meal in a timely manner while being creative and innovative in the process. There were three rounds: first round included an appetizer; second round included an entrée; and the final round included the dessert.

A total of four contestants were judged on Presentation (1-10 points); Creativity (1-10 points); Taste (1-10 points); and Sanitation (1-10 points) in front of a panel of three judges. After each round, the competitor with the least amount of points was eliminated from the contest until the last winning chef was left. For each round, a variety of ingredients were used. Students were only able to use the ingredients they were provided with.

Sponsors and donations include: Beth Meeks with Georgia Grown; Eric Wisham with Wisham’s Jellies in Tifton, Georgia; Baker Farms in Norman Park, Georgia; Lewis Taylor Farms in Tifton, Georgia; Sunnyland Farms, Inc. in Albany, Georgia; and Oliver Farms in Pitts, Georgia.

Head Chef and chairperson of Albany Tech’s Culinary Arts program, Todd White, says this is a great way to engage students into utilizing what they’ve been taught in the program while having fun at the same time.
