Albany, Georgia – Albany Technical College (ATC) will hold a Radiologic Technology spring pinning and awards ceremony. The event will take place Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. in Kirkland Conference Center on the main campus.
Six students will be recognized during the ceremony. Christine Anderson, Terriel Daniels, Bailey Griffin, Hannah Harbuck, Rodrequis Mitchell, and Tralany Roberts have completed the Radiologic Technology program. The guest speaker is Kirby Boudreaux, RT (R)(ARRT), from Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Awards during the ceremony will include the Phoebe Student Award, Crisp Regional Student Award, Phoebe Scholastic Award, JRCERT Award of Excellence, and ATC Outstanding Student Award.
Radiologic Technology
This long-standing program at Albany Tech now incorporates modern digital radiography in its curriculum, giving students the leading edge in hands-on training and making them more competitive in this field that specializes in the imaging of human anatomy. Students learn diagnostic imaging examinations such as x-rays and fluoroscopic exams.
Radiographers often produce x-ray images(radiographs) of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems. They prepare patients for radiologic examinations by explaining the procedure and positioning patients so that the parts of the body can be appropriately radiographed.
Admission to the Radiologic Technology Program is competitive and requires (Psychological Services Bureau) PSB test completion and a score of 50 or higher. Students are required to have successfully completed all core course requirements with a 2.75 GPA average or higher by no later than the end of the fall semester or have these core requirements as transfer credit with the minimum 2.75 GPA average from other schools. Students will earn a Radiologic Technology Associate of Applied Science degree and will be eligible to sit for a national certification examination for radiographers given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Graduates will be qualified for employment as certified entry-level radiologic technologists in urgent care centers, doctor’s offices, specialty offices/clinics, free-standing imaging centers, and hospitals.
Opportunities for Continuing Education
Following completion of the Radiologic Technology program, students can choose to continue their education and receive post primary certification in fields such as Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, and Radiation Therapy.
