Albany Technical College Spearheads Initiative to Boost Male Presence in Healthcare
ALBANY, GA – Albany Technical College (ATC) is working to fill the growing number of job vacancies throughout the healthcare industry by hosting events to get students interested in the industry. In an effort to attract more men to healthcare, Albany Tech will host a panel discussion called “Are You Man Enough to be in Healthcare?” on February 29th at 5:30 pm in the Kirkland Conference Center.
Professional representatives from various healthcare fields will be present to answer questions and discuss some challenges they have experienced and overcome on their journey into the field. These representatives include Dr. Lorenzo Carson, Radiologist (Phoebe Putney Hospital); Dr. Morris Clarington, Dean of Academic Affairs for Nursing & Allied Health (Albany Technical College); Anthony Lewis, SVP & Chief Resource Officer (Phoebe Health); Larry Jackson, ASCP MLT Lead (Houston Medical Center).
The event is sponsored by the Department of Education’s Student Wellness: Mental, Academic & Physical Preparedness PBI Grant under the direction of Lashea Dancer, Project Director.
Lisa Stephens, Associate VP of Academic Affairs, Business and Healthcare Technology, is all too familiar with the growing need for more men to join the healthcare field. “Men, traditionally, are underrepresented in healthcare professions. This trend is prevalent in healthcare education programs as well. Our goal for this event is to allow participants to hear from men in the profession and engage in dialogue about what they do daily.”
