About The Speaker

Dr. William Myles is a public housing professional with 18 years of experience who is currently serving as the CEO of the Albany and Lee County Housing Authority in the city of Albany, GA. He was born and raised in public housing in Meridian, MS, where he spent the first 20 years of his life in the Western Gardens housing development. That's also where his career in public housing began.

Dr. Myles attended the University of Southern, MS, where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Marketing while working as the Program Director at the East MS Boys & Girls Club. His leadership skills were in their initial stages of development, and they proved to be critical for the remainder of his professional journey.

After undergraduate school, he started his professional public housing career at the Meridian Housing Authority in Meridian, MS, where his first position was Community Liaison. He utilized this opportunity to learn the purpose of the housing authority and to connect the dots between how subsidized housing worked and the impact it played on the lives of those who lived in public housing. Several years later, he was promoted to FSS Coordinator, Neighborhood Network Center Director, and lastly, Director of Community & Supportive Services, expanding his executive leadership experience.

Dr. Myles later received his MBA from the University of Phoenix and then transitioned to Philadelphia, PA, after eight years of service at MHA. He was the Executive Vice President of Community Operations & Resident Development at the Philadelphia Housing Authority. This is the fourth-largest housing authority in the country, in which it serves over 82,000 residents.

During his tenure at the Philadelphia Housing Authority, he developed and coordinated a smoke-free policy for the agency. PHA became the largest housing authority to implement a smoke-free policy prior to the HUD-mandated rule. Much of the HUD rule regarding smoke-free was taken from this policy.

Later, Dr. Myles completed his doctoral program in Strategic Leadership at Thomas Jefferson University and received his PhD, in which his dissertation was on effectively transitioning residents out of public housing. During that time, he transitioned to the Albany and Lee County Housing Authority to serve as the first African-American CEO since its 75 years of existence.

Dr. Myles has served on national HUD panels as a subject matter expert regarding Section 3, Smoke-free policy, JobsPlus, and FYI Voucher Program to name a few. He was also invited to the White House to discuss the Smoke-free implementation strategy and policy.

In addition, in his six short years as CEO of the Albany and Lee County Housing Authority, he has successfully closed on a $30 million RAD deal that will rehab 279 units, established the Jeanette Henderson Scholarship Program, created a CNA job training and placement program, and established a Youth Leadership Academy for youth in the community.

He currently serves as the Vice-Chair of ADICA, as well as an active board member for United Way, Boys & Girls Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Colony Bank. He is also a member of Leadership Albany Class of 2022, 100 Black Men of SOWEGA, DEI Co-Chair of SERC, DEI of NAHRO, Delta Delta Chapter of Sigma Pi Phi and Phi Beta Sigma, Inc. with the privilege of joining the ranks of the distinguished gentlemen of the Criterion Club of the City of Albany.

In his downtime, Mr. Myles enjoys listening to jazz and a variety of styles of music. He also stays fit by playing basketball, working out, coaching youth basketball, and spending time with his family. He enjoys and looks forward to having an opportunity to read and be empowered through information as he relaxes.
