ALBANY, GA – Albany Technical College (ATC) will be hosting a Georgia Office of EMS and Trauma Instructor Update Class on December 18, 2019, in the Kirkland Conference Center from 9 am to 4 pm. This mandatory training is offered to all currently licensed EMS Instructors, EMS Training Directors, and Field Training Officers. The Georgia Office of EMS and Trauma is updating the process for EMS Instructor Licensure this year, and to prepare all licensed instructors for this, EMS Instructor Updates have been scheduled across the state.

Seventy-five people are expected to be on campus for this mandatory training. David Newton, Georgia EMS Director, will be conducting this session. Several EMS Regional Directors will also be attending. Those attending this training will receive 6 hours of continuing education credit to be used for renewing their state EMS instructor license.

“We are very proud of our students! Our most recent graduating group of Advanced EMT students just completed their National Registry Psychomotor Exam with a 100% pass rate. This group of 11 students is now taking the National Registry cognitive exam to be certified and licensed as an Advanced EMT,” stated Tracie Naylor-Griffin, Paramedicine Program Chair at Albany Technical College. These 11 students have been working as EMT’s since obtaining their EMT licenses in August 2019.

Naylor-Griffin went on to say that they have a great relationship with area employers and appreciate them employing Albany Technical College graduates. ATC strives to provide high quality, knowledgeable employees for the local workforce.

“The ATC Paramedicine Program is happy to host this event for the Georgia Office of EMS and Trauma,” said Naylor-Griffin.

Georgia EMS instructors must renew their license every two years by completing a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education at the instructor level and teaching a minimum of 40 hours in an initial EMS education program like the ones offered at Albany Technical College. Instructors receive the required hours through a variety of classes, conferences, and important updates like the one being held next week, December 18.
