January 13, 2015- Albany, GA from WALB- Albany's mayor gathered education leaders together at the Government Center Tuesday to talk about what they're doing to improve education and how that can improve the economy for all of us.
Education leaders in Albany and Dougherty County discussed the importance of education in downtown Albany.
As part of Mayor Dorothy Hubbard's Coalition for Economic Development, she invited leaders from Albany State, Albany Tech, Darton, the Dougherty County school system, and Turner Job Corp. Seamless Education and Endless Possibilities was the theme of the forum. Leaders talked about how their institutions impact the economy and development and what they can do to educate more Georgians. Albany State leaders say they're focused on workforce development and creating jobs.
"Economic development is going to be successful in Albany only when we can focus on our workforce and make sure we have prepared citizens. So were looking to tailor our academic programs, extracurricular activities for our students as they graduate to make sure they are ready to go into the workforce and productive citizens," said Clifford Porter.
Albany Tech leaders say they have one of the most comprehensive technical colleges in Georgia. The leaders say working together will help make a difference in Albany.
This is Mayor Hubbard's fourth economic forum since she formed her coalition and the first to focus on education.
