Law enforcers to take special Autism course

Posted on

March 3, 2014- Albany, GA from WALB- Albany and Dougherty County law enforcers will have a chance to learn more about Autism during a special course next month at Albany Tech.

Albany Tech EMT instructor Bryan Barnes says law enforcers will learn interview techniques that will help them recognize autism in the field.

He says often autistic people end up getting tased or pepper sprayed by mistake.

"So often people with aspergers look like you and I do, and they are so hard to recognize, but there are clues as you interview these people that become quite clear if you know what to look for," says Bryan Barnes, EMT Instructor at Albany Tech.

Officers from agencies in Albany and Dougherty and Lee Counties will take the free course and will get to work with Autistic kids that day.
