Knighton Appointed to Albany Technical College Dean Position

February 22, 2011 - Shirley Armstrong, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Albany Technical College, announced on Monday the appointment of Joy Knighton to the open position of Dean of the Technology, Business and Personal Services division.


A native of Albany, Knighton has been with Albany Tech since 2007 serving as the Department Chair and Instructor for the Law Enforcement Technology program. She received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Albany State University and master’s degree in management from Troy University.


Prior to joining Albany Tech, Knighton had worked with the Department of Corrections in both the facilities and probation divisions. Currently, she serves on the advisory boards for the following: Albany Police Department, Albany Regional Youth Development Center, and Lee County High School Vocation Training. She is a member of the American Probation and Parole Association and the Albany Tech 50th Anniversary  Committee. She also serves as an advisor for the Students for Christian Fellowship Committee, ATC Criminal Justice Club, as well as the Safety Committee at Albany Tech.


“Mrs. Knighton comes to us with years of experience in leadership, and will use her expertise and knowledge of the College to make a transition that will benefit us in the months to come,” said Shirley Armstrong, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Albany Tech.


Knighton will officially assume her position on March 1, 2011. She is married to Joe and they have two children, Jessica and Ramsey.
