January 8, 2009 (WALB) - A free course at Albany tech is drawing dozens of students eager to learn English.
This week the college started offering an English as a Second Language Course.
The ten week course is opened to all speakers of other languages who are older than 16.
Administrators say with Georgia's growing Hispanic population, this program is needed. Eight percent of Georgia's population is now Hispanic.
"Most of the people have high school diplomas or advanced degrees, and they're here to learn English so that they can get work, and so that they can help their children and further jobs. So they come for a myriad of reasons," said Linda Coston, Associate VP of Adult Education.
Classes take place each Monday and Thursday night from 6 pm to 8:30 pm in Building D room 418 at Albany Tech.
