October 8, 2009 – Named for the family who donated the $2 million dollar facility, the Carlton Construction Academy officially opened its doors today. The Academy houses construction trade programs including masonry, construction management, carpentry, plumbing and industrial air conditioning.
Albany Tech’s newest learning facility formally housed part of the Carlton family’s Albany Caterpillar equipment business, the Carlton Company. The family sold the business in 2002.
The $1.83 million to renovate this first stage of the facility came from the Georgia General Assembly in FY 2006. Funding for the second stage of renovations, which will add 20,000 square feet of classroom and office space, has not yet been secured.
The Carlton Construction Academy is located at Lippitt Drive and South Slappey Boulevard, about half a block from Albany Tech’s main campus.
