Career Academy in works for Albany

January 18, 2010 (WALB) – State Senator Freddie Powell Sims says a career academy may be in the works for Albany. Career academies partner local school systems with the state's technical colleges and local businesses.

Students are duel enrolled, attending both high school and technical college. When they graduate high school, they'll also earn a technical degree.

Senator Sims said, "It positions our students to become extremely competitive in the job market. We're already a work-force ready community, so it just enhances what we already have."

Senator Sims says negotiations are currently underway with the Dougherty County school system and Albany Tech. The program is an initiative out of the Lt. Governor's office.
