June 5, 2013- Albany, Ga.-- Albany Technical College's Special Needs Program will be hosting the Albany Advocacy Resource Center's (ARC) Center for the Blind Fourth Annual Summer Transition program on Thursday, June 6, 2013, from 9am to 11:30am in the Student Government Conference Room on the First Floor of the Logistics Education Center.
The transition program is designed for high school students who are blind or visually impaired from the Southwest Georgia area. These students will spend time on the Albany Tech campus learning about the resources and opportunities available to those with visual impairments. This is the perfect opportunity for students to obtain the needed information to make informed career and education decisions.
"The Special Needs Program is honored to highlight the various software applications, as well as services available that will level the playing field for these students should they choose to attend Albany Tech," said Regina Watts, Special Needs Coordinator at Albany Tech.
Through the Special Needs Program, Albany Tech ensures that its facilities, programs and activities are accessible to individuals with disabilities. The College is committed to providing equal access and reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities as defined under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The Counseling and Special Needs Coordinator provides assistance and services to ensure accessibility and to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities who are interested in and can benefit from the many programs offered at Albany Tech.
Approximately 20 to 30 students will participate in this program. Students will have the opportunity to tour the Albany Tech campus as well.
