ATC Receives 2014 Tree Campus USA Recognition

February 11, 2015- Albany, GA- Albany Technical has once again received the Tree Campus USA designation by the Arbor Day Foundation. 2014 marks the seventh year in a row Albany Tech has earned the award since it was launched in 2008.

Tree Campus USA® is a national program launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation and Toyota honoring colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.

To obtain the distinction, Albany Tech met the five core standards for sustainable campus forestry required by Tree Campus USA, including the establishment of a tree advisory committee, evidence of a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance and the sponsorship of student service- learning projects. Albany Tech is able to achieve these standards through the viability of its Environmental Horticulture program.

"Albany Tech's diligence in improving the environment and quality of life on its campus contributes to a healthier, more sustainable world for us all," said Mary Sweeney, Program Manager for the Arbor Day Foundation.

In observance of this designation and as part of the annual Arbor Day, Albany Tech will plant another live oak tree on its campus on March 4, 2015. More information to come later in the month about Albany Tech's tree planting ceremony.
