ATC Holds Fall 2015 National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) Induction Ceremony Thursday Evening

October 14, 2015 - Albany, GA - Albany Technical College will hold their annual fall National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) induction ceremony on Thursday, October 15, 2015, beginning at 6pm, in the Kirkland Conference Center.

NTHS is the acknowledged leader in the recognition of outstanding student achievement and technical education. The organization also offers scholarships every year to its members.

Keynote speaker for the ceremony will be Ben Barrow, President and Co-owner of LRA Constructors of Albany, Georgia. An active part of the Albany community for over 20 years, Barrow has served on numerous boards, including Albany YMCA, Darton College, Dougherty County Rotary Club, Albany Area Chamber of Commerce, SunTrust Bank, Coalition for Diversity, One Albany, and Boy Scouts. He has also served as a Youth Pastor and Elder of LifeGate Church of Albany.

Barrow currently serves as the Board Chair of Strive2Thrive, a non-profit organization that brings community support and resources to people in need living in the Albany area and he also serves on the Albany Technical College Board of Directors. He graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a master's in Business Administration. His forte is "understanding the detail of foundations, framing and flashing design and visualizing concepts to serve the owners' needs. He promotes productivity, quality, and marketing for LRA Constructors, Inc.

Twenty Albany Tech students will be inducted at Thursday's ceremony. Students eligible for induction into the NTHS must be enrolled at Albany Tech; must have completed two consecutive quarters of coursework, a minimum of 24 credit hours; must have at least a 3.5 GPA overall and must have made no lower than a B on any course exam. Eligible students must also exemplify the personal qualities of an honor student: safety conscious; working well with others; dependable; trustworthy; responsible; honest; takes pride in work; exhibits good citizenship; and makes a neat and clean appearance. In addition, the student must be recommended by his/her advisor and must maintain the required grade average to remain a member of NTHS.
