January 15, 2015- Albany, GA- Albany Technical College will hold its annual Education Partnership Day on Friday, January 16, 2015, from 8am to 2:45pm, in the Kirkland Conference Center.
The purpose of this event is to provide information to high school counselors, technical education directors, graduation coaches, and other high school officials in an effort to encourage high school students to consider technical education. Information about dual and joint enrollment opportunities for high school students will also be provided.
The day will include several internal and external speakers. The session will open with a presentation by Carol Abrams, High School Initiatives Coordinator from Georgia Northwestern Technical College, followed by a presentation by Col. Sabrina Lewis, Operations Director of the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office.
The group will be able to tour the campus and labs prior to lunch. Following lunch, Dr. Anthony O. Parker, President of Albany Tech, will present to the group on the importance of College Credit Now (dual enrollment) opportunities at Albany Tech, as well as the various pathways offered by the college. After Dr. Parker's presentation, Albany High School student, Nasya Blackwell, will reflect on what it means to be a College Credit Now student at Albany Tech, followed by a reflection from College and Career Performance Learning Center dually enrolled student, Walter Wisniewski.
The day will conclude with the Albany Tech Admissions and Student Services staff reviewing the application process, testing procedures, remediation, financial aid, including the HOPE Grant and ACCEL program applications, and the full registration process in place at Albany Tech. The group will also have an opportunity at the end of the day for to ask questions.
