February 10, 2011 - The Telecommunications Engineering Technology program at Albany Tech is celebrating its first degree graduate of the program. Ricardo Roberts is the first of what the College hopes will be many to graduate from the program.
Roberts, a native of Albany, is a graduate of Albany High School. He served for three years active duty in the Air Force as a sheet metal mechanic. When he left the Air Force, he decided he wanted to come to Albany Tech to pursue his dream of doing computer networking.
Roberts is also a degree graduate of the Biomedical Electronics Technology program at Albany Tech. He decided to continue on and pursue the associate degree in Telecommunications Engineering Technology to further his knowledge of computer networking.
“We learned so much in the CISCO lab at Albany Tech,” said Roberts. “We were able to get so much hands-on experience with routers, switches, and networks, which was exciting for me. I would definitely recommend the program at Albany Tech to others interested in pursuing this area of study.”
Roberts is furthering his education at DeVry University, where he has already started the bachelor’s degree program in Electronics Engineering Technology. DeVry accepted over 40 credit hours from Albany Tech’s Telecommunications Engineering Technology program. He says he will use his VA benefits to complete his bachelor’s program and he plans to continue on to pursue his master’s.
The ultimate goal for Roberts is to possibly start his own business. One of his classmates from Albany Tech in the Telecommunications Engineering Technology program will graduate in the spring and they are thinking of possibly opening a business together here in Albany.
DeVry is one of several universities who accept credits from Albany Tech’s accredited programs. The College is also working with Albany State, Georgia Southwestern State, Valdosta State, and others to help its students who earn associate degrees and wish to continue to earn a bachelor’s degree make an easy transition.
