Ashley Harry, ATC GOAL Student of the Year, Receives iPad
June 21, 2010 - Albany Technical College Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) student, Ashley Harry, was presented with an iPad on Tuesday, June 22nd, at 4pm in the Albany Tech Board Room in the Kirkland Building.
Albany Technical College named Medical Assisting student Ashley Harry the GOAL College winner in March. Harry was nominated by Medical Assisting instructor, Cathy Garmon.
“This iPad will be very helpful as I continue to complete my education,” said Harry.
The GOAL program recognizes exceptional technical college students from across the state for their academic excellence and personal achievement. The program also spotlights the important role of technical training in our economy.
Harry competed against 10 College GOAL winners representing the technical colleges and USG colleges with a technical division, in the South Georgia region and then again at the state level in May. Although she did not win the state competition, each college winner within the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) is being awarded an iPad in honor of his or her achievements.
A native of Preston, GA, Harry graduated with a diploma in the medical assisting program this past spring. She will be returning to Albany Tech this summer to complete her associate’s degree in medical assisting. She plans to finish her associate’s degree by next summer and will go on to complete her bachelor of science degree in Medical Management from DeVry Institute. DeVry has awarded Harry a $26,000 scholarship. She will be able to complete her degree 100 percent online while working full-time. Her plans are to become a Physician’s Assistant.
Harry is currently employed as a Representative 1 at Inpatient Medicine Specialists at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where she completed her Albany Tech externship.
“Having completed my externship at the same place where I am now working made my transition from Albany Tech to work very smoothly. In fact, I got the job about two weeks prior to graduating with my diploma in medical assisting from Albany Tech,” said Harry.
