Area Colleges and DCSS to host Albany Go To College Event Monday, February 9th

February 6, 2015- Albany, GA- Albany State University, Albany Technical College, Darton State College and the Dougherty County School System are partnering with Wells Fargo Education Financial Services to host a college planning and financial aid event for Albany-Dougherty County high school students and parents on Monday, February 9, 2015, from 5 – 8 p.m. at Albany Technical College.

Representatives from each college will be available to talk with students and their families, provide information about their institutions admissions criteria, and answer questions. The fair will include parent and student breakout sessions covering topics such as financial aid and scholarships, college planning, and transitioning from high school to college.

Student attendees will have a chance to screen the award-winning documentary, "First Generation." Shot over a three-year period, the film explores obstacles students face when trying to overcome barriers to a successful college pathway. The film will follow a powerful dialogue on how to navigate and achieve college success.

Albany Go To College is designed to help educate local students on the higher-education opportunities available in their own backyard. For parents, the college fair affords them the chance to collect valuable information on the area colleges and the admissions processes. Students will receive planning tools and information that will help them to create a successful pathway into college.

College application waivers for ASU, ATC, and DSC will be available and onsite assistance in completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Students and parents are reminded to bring their 2014 federal income tax returns and earning statements (W2/1099) in order to complete the FAFSA application.
