June 21, 2012- ATLANTA, GA- Thirty-three technical college executives from across the state of Georgia have been selected to take part in the Technical College System of Georgia's (TCSG) Executive Leadership Academy for 2012 - 2013.

Joy Knighton, Dean of Academic Affairs for the Technology, Business, Personal and Public Services division at Albany Technical College, was nominated to attend the academy by Albany Technical College's President Dr. Anthony Parker, and TCSG Commissioner Ron Jackson approved the selection.

The academy is designed to acquaint participants with the leadership and managerial responsibilities of TCSG executives. While the program is specifically geared to the policies and procedures of the TCSG, the curriculum is sufficiently broad in scope to have application to public two-year colleges in any state and includes topics ranging from ethics and board operations to institutional effectiveness, accreditation issues, strategic planning, and more.

"Our focus is to use this training to develop the next generation of great leaders for Georgia's technical colleges," said TCSG Commissioner Ron Jackson. "The academy's programs are ideal for providing these rising executives with unique opportunities to obtain valuable leadership experience."

"Dean Knighton is responsible for a very large and active group of programs in Academic Affairs," said Pamela Heglar, Acting President at Albany Technical College.

"Her participation in TCSG's Executive Leadership Academy will be very beneficial to her division and the College as a whole," she added.

Jackson had high praise for this year's participants. "I can tell you first hand that this group possesses superb leadership talents and a strong dedication to providing the very best technical college experience for our students," said Jackson. "I congratulate Joy Knighton on her selection to represent Albany Technical College in the 2012-2013 TCSG Executive Leadership Academy."
