Albany Technical College to Hold Fall Honors Day Program Tuesday

December 10, 2012- ALBANY, GA-On Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at 11am, Albany Technical College will host the Fall Honors Day Program in the Kirkland Conference Center.


More than 120 fall graduates will be recognized in the following areas: American Criminal Justice Association, Collegiate DECA, Foundation Setters for Future Minds, National Technical Honors Society (NTHS), Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), President's List, SkillsUSA, Students Fellowship for Christians (SFC), Student Government Association (SGA), General Education Development (GED), and Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.


The guest speaker for the program will be Dr. Debra Jones, Dean of Academic Affairs for the General Education and Learning Support Division at Albany Technical College.


An English and Humanities instructor at Albany Tech for 13 years, Jones also served as department chair for eight years and was a National Technical Honors Society (NTHS) sponsor, Teacher of the Year nominee, and Lighthouse Institute Award recipient. She earned a Ph.D. and M.A. degree in English with a concentration in literature from Florida State University. She also holds master's and bachelor's degrees in education, graduating cum laude from Valdosta State University.


Jones has edited four books, Swamp Gravy: Folk Tales of South Georgia, Gospel Truth, Good Medicine, and Claiming Kin. These collections of stories from the Southwest Georgia region also became the basis for her Swamp Gravy scripts written for "Georgia's Official Folklife Play." She was the playwright for seven productions, with the most recent one being The Big Picture in 2010. She has also authored plays for two other Georgia communities, Turner County and Manchester.
