June 16, 2011 - In the June 13, 2011 edition of Community College Week magazine, Albany Technical College ranked 22nd in the publication’s listing of Top 100 One-Year Certificate Producers list for 2011 with a total number of 1,664 diplomas and certificates awarded so far.
Albany Tech was ranked 32 in 2010 for the same list with a total of 1,271 diplomas and certificates awarded. That is an increase of 393 more degrees awarded for this period.
According to a Community College Week analysis, degrees awarded throughout the Top 100 list set a record high despite the rocky educational landscape, particularly the financial constraints that have been experienced since most community colleges opened their doors.
“Albany Tech’s move from the 32nd slot to the 22nd slot demonstrates even further that we are at an all-timen high of relevance in Georgia, especially in Southwest Georgia,” said Dr. Anthony Parker, President of Albany Technical College.
Albany Tech’s summer quarter began on June 13th with over 4,000 students enrolled. This fall, Albany Tech, along with its other 26 sister technical colleges within the Technical College System of Georgia, will transition into the semester system. There is no expected loss of enrollment with the conversion in the fall. Still in the midst of its 50th anniversary celebration and the opening of a new Logistics Education Center on Tuesday, the College anticipates the growth to continue into the rest of 2011 and spill on into 2012.
