Medical Assistants perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health practitioners running smoothly. The duties of medical assistants vary from office to office, depending on the location and size of the practice and the practitioner’s specialty in small practices, medical assistants usually perform many different kinds of tasks, handling both administrative and clinical duties and reporting directly to an office manager, physician, or other health practitioner. Those working in large practices tend to specialize in a particular area, under the supervision of department administrators.

The Medical Assisting program at Albany Tech is designed to prepare students for employment in a variety of positions in today’s medical offices. The program provides learning opportunities to upgrade skills or to retrain in the area of Medical Assisting. Students can earn both a diploma and an associate of applied science (AAS) degree in the program.

Albany Tech’s Medical Assisting program has been accredited for more than 17 years by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), upon recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB). The program currently boasts a 100 percent employer and graduate satisfaction, as well as a 96 percent job placement rate.
