Albany Technical College Holds Spring 2017 Honors Program

April 24, 2017 - Albany, GA - Albany Technical College will hold an Honors Day Program for Spring 2017 graduates on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Kirkland Conference Center.

Nearly 50 candidates for Albany Tech’s Spring Graduation will receive awards in categories such as American Criminal Justice Club, Ambassadors, Engineering Club (E-Club), Honors with Distinction, National Technical Honors Society (NTHS), Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), Presidential Scholar, SkillsUSA, Student Fellowship for Christians (SFC), Student Government Association (SGA), and General Education Development (GED).

Keynote speaker for the program will be Richard L. Henderson, Owner of JR’s Loving Care Services, Inc. and Henderson Lawn Care. A native of Albany, Henderson is a graduate of Westover High School. He received an associate’s degree in Computer Information Systems from Albany Tech and continued on to study Criminal Justice at Albany State University. He worked for several years as an officer with the Albany Police Department and worked his way up to Evidence Manager in the Forensics Unit.

While a student at Albany Tech, Henderson was active and engaged in campus life and community service. He was a member of the Student Government Association (SGA) and Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), where he served as the historian. He has owned JR’s Loving Care Services, Inc. and Henderson Lawn Care Services for the past 21 years. He was inspired to open JR’s Loving Care Services, Inc. because of his experience with his father’s illness.

Among the nearly 50 candidates is Nilkumar “Nil” Patel, an Electronics and Engineering Technology associate’s degree Move On When Ready (MOWR) student from Terrell County High School. Patel serves as the 2017 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) winner for Albany Tech and is slated to continue on in pursuit of his bachelor’s degree in Engineering in the fall at the University of Georgia.

Albany Tech’s Spring Commencement Exercises will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 7 p.m. at the Albany Civic Center.
