Albany Technical College exceeding goals for graduation, job placement

Aug 24, 2009 - (WALB) Record-breaking enrollment continues at Albany Technical College and 98 percent of Albany Tech graduates are finding jobs in their career fields.

In his state of the college address Monday, Dr. Anthony Parker said the college still needs to work with employers to fill job vacancies in the community.

Dr. Parker says Albany Tech is meeting or exceeding it's goals for graduation and job placement. The school's adult education programs have exceeded their goals, but said the college still falls short in some areas of training which will be a focus for the future.

"We still leave about 300 to 400 jobs on the table every year including last year that employers needed filled that didn't get filled in that fiscal year so, we're going to grow enrollment and help them fill those vacancies," said Dr. Anthony Parker, Albany Technical College President.

Going forward won't be easy with projected budget cuts and mandated furlough days for employees.  In the next year he's anticipating breaking ground on the Logistics Education center, opening the Carlton Construction Academy and renovating several medical labs.
