Albany Technical College appoints new Dean of Health care Technology

June 21, 2012- ALBANY, GA- Albany Technical College has appointed a new Dean of Health Care Technology. Mattie Buchannon will be the new dean effective July 1, 2012.


Buchannon boasts more than 20 years experience as both a faculty member and program chair for the Practical Nursing program at Albany Tech. She holds her associate degree in Nursing from Albany Junior College (now Darton College), bachelor's in Nursing from Georgia Southwestern State University, and a master's in Nursing from Albany State University.


Named Albany Tech's 2005 Rick Perkins Teacher of the Year, Buchannon has also served as the primary advisor for the SkillsUSA program at Albany Tech for over 10 years. She also serves on an advisory committee for Darton College, a Health Occupations Advisory member for area high schools, and as a consortium chair for technical education for the Southwest region.


"My goal is to continue to support the vision of workforce development and continue to advocate for technical education," said Buchannon.


Buchannon replaces longtime Dean Dr. Dorothy Garner, who served in the position for 32 years. Garner is set to retire from Albany Tech the end of June.
