ALBANY, GA – Albany Technical College (ATC) and Sherwood Baptist Church (SBC) will partner to hold a ribbon cutting to launch Adult Education classes on Monday, February 20, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Hope Center at the Coke Plant at 925 Pine Avenue in Albany.
The purpose of the partnership will be to support city-wide efforts to include adult education classes, academics, career services, and provide community support services located at the SBC Hope Center at the Coke Plant site for Albany Technical College referrals, services, and clients. The mission of both organizations is to reach the surround communities to make an impact for those individual students in need, especially those who may have had barriers in completing educational, personal, and professional goals.
“Sherwood and Albany Technical College is partnering to provide literacy and support services at The Hope Center in anticipation of serving a population of residents in need of basic skills,
employment, and support services to remove barriers,” said Linda Coston, Vice President for Adult Education at Albany Tech.
Coston said this partnership will offer free classes with a flexible class schedule, transportation, GED testing fees, and other support services focused on GED attainment and dual enrollment. Through the Ability to Benefit (ATB) federal program, students working on obtaining their GED, if qualified, can dual enroll in a select list of academic programs at Albany Tech. This allows the student to be work ready sooner after obtaining their GED.
