April 6, 2009 – Albany Technical College will host the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) finalists from seven southwest Georgia colleges for the regional competition on April 7, 2009. Practical Nursing student Bridgett Morris will represent Albany Tech in the competition.

The GOAL program recognizes exceptional technical college students from across the state for their academic excellence and personal achievement. The program also spotlights the important role of technical training in our economy.

The seven GOAL finalists in the Southwest Georgia consortium include:

Tracie Blue – Southwest Georgia Technical College, Associate Degree Nursing

Traci Faison – East Central Technical College, Practical Nursing

Tanya Jones Farrow – South Georgia Technical College, Early Childhood Care & Education

Carolyn Hammack – Valdosta Technical College, Early Childhood Care & Education

Kimberly Hancock – Moultrie Technical College, Accounting

Bridgett Morris - Albany Technical College, Practical Nursing

Roger Pierce – Bainbridge College, Practical Nursing

The finalists will deliver three-minute speeches on why they chose technical education and undergo an interview. The judges will then choose two students to represent southwest Georgia at the state level GOAL competition which will take place in Atlanta in May. But these two regional finalists will not be announced until later in April. The state GOAL winner serves as an ambassador of technical education in Georgia and wins a Chevrolet vehicle.

The regional finalists will be honored during a luncheon at Albany Tech’s Kirkland Conference Center at 12:30p.m. on April 7th.
