May 15, 2009 – Seven Albany Technical College students placed at the Georgia SkillsUSA Competition held April 17-19, 2009. SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers, as well as high school and college students, who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations including health occupations. It was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).

Brad Cantrell, Albany – Silver in Nurse Assisting
Joel McBride, Moultrie - Silver in Electronics Application
Sergius Figura, Lee County – Silver in Telecommunications
Kenya Hicks, Dawson – Bronze in Cosmetology
Kristie Singleton, Albany - Bronze in Nail Care
Gold medal winners Ashley Hall, Kimberly Gonzalez, and Rachel Kimbrel will represent Georgia at the National SkillsUSA Championship in Kansas City, Missouri in June. The multi-million dollar event occupies a space equivalent to 16 football fields. Last year, more than 5,000 students competed.
ATC instructors Mattie Buchannon, Alfred Gillis and Nancy Wright serve as the SkillsUSA coordinators.
