April 8, 2009 – Michelle Harris, a 21 year-old dental assisting student at Albany Technical College, recently received the 2009 Thomas P. Hinman Scholarship Award. Harris was selected because of her high grade point average, career goals and professionalism. She traveled to Atlanta in March to accept her $500 scholarship from the Hinman Dental Society.

“My instructors, Priscilla Ryals and Linda Cauley, are motivating. They have inspired me to continue my education and become a dental hygienist,” said Harris. “This scholarship proves that hard work does pay off.”

The Hinman Dental Society is a non-profit organization comprised of more than 750 member dentists primarily located in the Atlanta area. The Society is dedicated to the advancement of its membership through outstanding educational and professional development. Each spring, the Society hosts the annual Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting, where scholarships are awarded to students studying to become dentists, specialists, hygienists and dental assistants.

Harris, originally from Griffin, is currently employed at Affordable Dentures in Albany. After graduating from Albany Technical College this month, she plans to use the scholarship to continue her education in the dental field.
